Overview

This article covers the pay-as-you-go StorageLink listing on the AWS, Azure and Google Cloud marketplaces. Pricing for this listing uses a pay-as-you-go model, which means you'll be charged $0.08 USD per hour that the VM runs. This is a software charge on top of the cost of the VM, which depends on the size of the VM.

StorageLink is also available as the StorageLink BYOL (Bring Your Own License) listing on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud — the recommended listing for new deployments. It has no marketplace software fee: you start a free 30-day trial from the admin UI, then buy a license from Thorn Technologies sized to your user count. See Purchasing a License.

StorageLink comes with a 30-day free trial, so you won't be charged any license fees for the first 30 days.

To stop getting charged for StorageLink, stop or terminate the VM.

info

Running StorageLink around the clock for 30 days costs $57.6 USD in license fees.

User limit on the pay-as-you-go listing

Starting with StorageLink 1.3.0, an instance launched from the pay-as-you-go marketplace listing licenses itself automatically. There is nothing to enter, and the instance is licensed from first boot. Settings → License shows that the license came from the marketplace.

The license covers 10 StorageLink users. Administrators are not counted against that limit. The limit applies to creating users: an instance that already has more than 10 users keeps serving all of them, but cannot add or replace a user. If you restore a backup that contains more than 10 users, the first 10 are imported and each remaining user is reported as skipped by name (see the upgrade guide).

Every subscriber of the listing gets the same limit. If you need more than 10 users, deploy from the StorageLink BYOL listing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) instead — StorageLink Standard vs BYOL explains how to move an existing deployment — where the license is issued for the number of users you require, or use the container edition. See Purchasing a License or book a 15-minute call with our Sales team.

Pay as you go pricing

StorageLink uses the pay-as-you-go pricing model. You get charged a flat rate of $0.08 USD per hour, regardless of EC2 instance type.

This price is for the software only. There is a separate charge for the EC2 instance type.

When you stop or terminate the EC2 instance, you are no longer charged.

What does it mean to Subscribe

In the AWS Marketplace, a Subscription allows your organization to run the product in your AWS account. In other words, you are explicitly opting-in to use the product.

It does not cost anything to subscribe. Subscribing only affects whether the product can be launched in your AWS account.

Note: A child AWS account does not inherit product subscriptions from a parent AWS account. Each AWS account needs to individually subscribe in order to use the product.

Annual pricing

If you are running StorageLink in production, and you know which EC2 instance size best supports your workload, you might consider the annual pricing model. This locks you in for a year, but gives you a discount.

Like a reserved instance, annual pricing gives you a "credit" for each hour, over the course of a year. This works well if you have a single EC2 instance running around the clock.
